At OneSource Amusements, we have the opportunity to work with a variety of locations that use entertainment to improve the experiences they provide. We recently visited one of our partner locations, Positive Recovery Center, to learn more about their mission and how recreational activities have impacted their facility.

We spoke with Glenn Carosella, a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor at Positive Recovery Center, about their approach to recovery and the role arcade games have played in creating opportunities for connection.

A Different Approach to Recovery

Positive Recovery Centers provides substance use treatment through an approach centered around positive psychology. Their program focuses on helping residents build skills that support a healthier and more fulfilling life after treatment.

“We literally teach people how to be happy,” Glenn shared. “Because if they can find that, then they’re less likely to go back to the things that led them here to begin.”

Creating the right environment plays an important role in supporting that mission.

Adding Value Through Entertainment

Recovery requires residents to work through difficult experiences and personal challenges. Recreational spaces give residents an opportunity to step away from that work and connect with others in a positive setting.

“On the surface, it’s just entertainment,” Glenn explained. “A lot of what we do here is really heavy work. We’re dealing with trauma and addiction, and they need a break.”

Since adding arcade games, the facility has created another space where residents can spend time together outside of scheduled programming.

“It brings them together,” Glenn said. “Out of all the indicators that determine whether somebody’s going to be successful in long-term recovery, it’s the quality of connections they have in their life.”

Encouraging Interaction Through Shared Experiences

Before introducing the game room, residents had limited options for their free time between structured activities. The new space provided another outlet and encouraged residents to naturally gather with one another.

One example happened during the holiday season when a resident organized a pool tournament. The activity quickly gained interest and created a shared experience throughout the facility.

“About 60% of the clients joined, and we couldn’t get them out of the room,” Glenn said. “There was laughter, it got competitive, and that was something a client created.”

Recreational activities give residents opportunities to create positive experiences and strengthen their sense of community.

Building Spaces People Want to Use

For facilities like Positive Recovery Centers, entertainment helps create a more engaging environment. A well-designed game area can encourage interaction, improve the atmosphere, and provide people with additional ways to connect.

When asked about working with OneSource Amusements, Glenn highlighted the importance of having a dependable partner.

“How quickly you respond and how quickly you show up has stood out,” he said. “You guys are friendly, you’re prompt, and I really enjoy how this relationship is evolving.”

The impact at Positive Recovery Centers shows how the right entertainment solutions can support the needs of different spaces. Whether it is a recovery facility, restaurant, family entertainment center, or another community-focused venue, thoughtful additions can improve the overall experience for the people who use them.

OneSource Amusements works with each location to provide entertainment solutions that fit their space, audience, and operational goals.
